Substance abuse and addictive disorders are mental issues associated with the use and/or dependence on the use of a substance despite potential harmful or disruptive consequences. These disorders often lead to significant impairment in an individual’s health and damage or disruption of relationships, and they can also manifest in one’s inability to accomplish or maintain major responsibilities at work, school, or home. Many of the disorders appear with the presence of intoxication and withdrawal symptoms.
Throughout this course, you will be introduced to a series of individuals, each displaying symptoms that are indicative of specific Substance Abuse and Addictive Disorders as outlined in the DSM-5-TR. By watching interactive video patient simulations, you will have the opportunity to observe and analyze the behaviors and symptoms of each client and apply the diagnostic criteria to make an accurate diagnosis.

Cliff Bennett
Cliff Bennett is a chiropractor with a failing practice. Cliff feels that he has never measured up. He feels unfairly treated by life: trapped by his responsibilities, hating his family, and longing for the daughter from a first marriage that he rarely gets to see. He has always drunk but now, as the years have gone by, his problem has gotten worse. Cliff doesn't think he has a problem.

He always had success against his friends and other lesser players, but when he decided to move to Las Vegas and make a career out of it, he found that he did not have the control over himself that would be needed to make it for any extended period of time.
